Part one of a three part interview begun on November 23, 1988. Claire Millhiser Rosenbaum interviews George Modlin on his student years at Wake Forest and Princeton, his interview with Dr. Frederic Boatwright, his friendship with Dean Raymond Pinchbeck, and his work in the Evening College and his contributions during World War II and the 1946 visit of General Eisenhower and Admiral Nimitz. Dr. Modlin describes his work with Dr. Douglas Southall Freeman and the Trustees, the donors, E. Claiborne Robins, and Mrs. Clarence Millhiser. The addition of the barracks and the Bostwick Lane bungalows are discussed.
